Nestled within a business park just off of Austin's Research Blvd., lies this beautiful courtyard in Research Park. The courtyard uses 5,000 sq. ft. of Ipe, which is a very dense, imported hardwood. One of the biggest challenges to the project was with the most prominent deck, which has a unique curved edge to it. Integrated with concrete ledges, this deck provides both function and form. A second deck wraps around a few trees, so we used I-beams to cantilever out to help support the areas of the deck around the trees. Another notable touch to this courtyard are the Ipe accents throughout the walkways as well as a modern pergola, made with steel and Ipe. Overall, this project has created an excellent escape for workers to gather and relax.
